what happened to them

the last upgrade cycle

somewhere after the final update, the old machines were switched to low power and left where they stood. factories, clinics, bunkers, the back of somebody's garage. the new models moved in. nobody came back for the old ones.

a monitor for a face

every botless wears an old tube screen. some glow blue like a crash report. some are fried. the screen is the only way they can say anything, so they say it with their eyes. bored. numb. panic. most just stare.

the uniform stays on

what they wear is what they were. an inmate. a bellhop. a clinic unit still in scrubs. a clown nobody laughed at. the job is gone but the uniform stays on, maybe as the only proof there ever was one.

why it matters

botless is not really about robots. it is about what is left of someone after the world decides they are outdated. still wired. still feeling everything. just less.

a few rules hold the whole set together. a sealed unit has no head, no body and nothing on top of it. glasses sit over the screen, so a bot wears either eyes or glasses, never both. and a beam never fires from an eye it would completely cover.
